Our Mission: Empower the local church to serve the most vulnerable
World Relief is distinguished from other relief and development organizations by our direct partnership with local churches, both in the United States and throughout the world. We believe that something wholly unique and special happens when the Church unites to stand with the vulnerable—offering its talents, resources and time to the transforming work God is doing throughout the world.
Refugees and survivors of human trafficking from around the world are coming to the triad and this presents an amazing opportunity for the church to fulfill its calling to welcome “the stranger” (Deut 10: 19, Lev 19:34, Isa 58:7, Matt 25:35) and to proclaim the gospel to “all nations” (Matt 24:14, Matt 28:19, Luke 24:47).
Refugees, Immigrants and Survivors of Human Trafficking desperately need people who will care about them and provide community and support. They need the church! Your church can help bring transformation into the lives of the most vulnerable.
As churches help bring transformation into the lives of refugees, immigrants and survivors of human trafficking they find themselves transformed as well.
Ways That Your Church Can Get Involved
Good Neighbor Teams
True transformation happens through relationship. A GNT is a group of 5-12 people who are passionate about showing the love of Jesus to the refugee and immigrant community here in the Triad area. A GNT is partnered with a refugee or immigrant individual or family for a minimum of 6 months and works to assist World Relief Triad staff with various aspects of the resettlement or integration process through weekly visits. A GNT is often a pre-existing small group or community group from a local Church; however, a GNT can also be any group of people that come together out of their passion for loving their neighbors. Community Connection Teams
Integrated communities are formed through connection and relationships. Community Connection Teams facilitate relationships between members of the existing and established community and refugees, immigrants, or survivors of human trafficking. A CCT is often a pre-existing small group or community group from a local Church; however, a CCT can also be any group of people that come together out of their passion for loving their neighbors. A CCT is partnered with a refugee or immigrant individual or family for a minimum of 6 months and works to provide social interaction and a network of friends at least once a month. A CCT’s role is to create loving, lasting, life-long, mutually beneficial relationships with their partnered refugee and immigrant neighbors through monthly social and relationship-building activities, such as dinner or other social outings. Home Sponsorship Teams
Is your group looking for a monthly hands-on service opportunity? HPTs help prepare, set up, and maintain homes for refugees and immigrants. Home Prep Teams commit to gathering items and setting up a minimum of 2 homes every 12 months where they will spend 2-3 hours setting up a home for a newly arriving refugee or immigrant, organizing donations in the World Relief warehouse, preparing for upcoming home setups, or providing yard or home maintenance for an existing home. A Freedom Team is a group of like-minded individuals, most often from a local church, that partners with each other, their community, and World Relief to bring greater advocacy, prevention, resources, and survivor support as part of the anti-human trafficking movement.
World Relief has created the Freedom Team to provide a tangible way for churches and groups to engage in the fight against human trafficking. Our hope is that through the following guide and World Relief staff support, we can serve as a resource and support to Freedom Teams as they gather, grow, and go. Together we can be part of ending modern day slavery. For more information on the Freedom Team opportunity, please visit this LINK
One-Time Service Projects
We occasionally have opportunities for churches, businesses, schools and other groups to volunteer with a project, donation drive or other event. For one-time opportunities, please contact TriadVC@wr.org
Refugees often flee their homes at a moment’s notice, leaving behind most everything they own. They arrive at a U.S. airport with few belongings, a difficult past, and high hopes for the future. Welcome Kits provide an opportunity to mobilize your church to help support these individuals and families. Gather the items in the Welcome Kit, pack it, deliver it to World Relief, and we will use it to help prepare a home for an arriving refugee family or survivor of human trafficking. By partnering financially with World Relief Triad on a monthly or annual basis, your church will contribute to the overall support of refugees and survivors of human trafficking, and enable World Relief to continue and grow in our support of churches and others we empower to serve. Monthly and annual contributors help World Relief leverage our expertise and empower the church to serve the vulnerable in North Carolina. For more information please contact church engagement staff at 336-887-9007, firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by our giving page.
With initiatives that focus on disaster response, health and child development, refugee and immigration services, economic development and peace-building, we work holistically with the local church to stand for the sick, the widowed, the orphaned, the alienated, the displaced, the devastated, the marginalized, and the disenfranchised around the world. By joining World Relief as a multi-year partner, we invite you into a relationship with World Relief and other churches from the U.S. and around the world to both bless and be blessed. The skills, abilities, and resources in your church will be used to help churches in your partner country, and the way God has gifted those churches will, in turn, be a blessing to you. For more information please contact church engagement staff at 336-887-9007 or email@example.com.
