Families must understand basic financial concepts to set achievable financial goals and progress toward them, and refugee families are no exception. Effective financial education reflects the unique needs and characteristics of class participants, including level of English proficiency, cultural attitudes about money and saving, and more. Use this workshop to establish basic foundations on budgeting.

  • Picture Card Expenses
  • Play Money Totaling Monthly Income
  • Household Budget (English and translation if available)
  • Bill Paying Templates (Check, Envelope, Money Order, Cash)
  • Pens

 

What is a Budget and why is it important? A budget is a plan for how you should spend your money. If you don’t have a plan and stick to it, it is more likely you will make bad decisions with your money and your family will have to suffer the consequences. The key to budgeting is knowing what is most important and paying those things first.
